Can a Poem Be Healing (GoodTherapy.org)
Long before therapy was created, people used the arts, including poetry, as a way to try to work through difficult times in their life. In my years as a therapist, I often have been surprised by how many clients write poetry, or have written poetry in the past but fallen away from the practice. Although not for all clients, integrating poetry into therapy is helpful for many people. In a recently blog I wrote for GoodTherapy.org, I explored this issue. The blog, which is titled, “Can a Poem Heal? Writing Poetry Through the Pain,” explores the intersection of poetry and therapy. You can read the full blog here.
